I was at an event on Sunday where the ZSL had a stall on eel monitoring, the guy said that due to the long winter and delayed onset of spring their migration is a few weeks behind the normal schedule, so we should hopefully start to see one or two appear in the trap at some point soon now that the weather has finally turned.

Thanks mate, yes agree that the cold has certainly delayed them.

Who is up for this Saturday, I am on nights until Sunday so only at a push can get down.

The jack and me should be able to get here on out trusty steads, if it is not raining/snowing/high winds/low winds, just give us a time as it takes me 3/4hr to get there

Keith, if the weather isn't suitable for cycling I can get one of the lockies to act as spotter.

Morning everyone

This week we caught over 4000 elvers at Allington Lock on the Medway. More than the total number of eels caught over 12 sites last year. It’s following a pattern being seen across the country. The news has even made it to the national press.

It’s only one year’s data so we have to be cautious about reading to much significance into it. That said, it’s wonderful to see and very encouraging. We have some big tides coming up towards the end of this month, that is when we might start seeing these big numbers on some of the tributaries towards the west of our monitoring range.

Hi all,

Just to let you know I'm on holiday from this weekend until 10th June. I'm having an operation when I get back on my arm but hopefully no lasting problems so will be back in on the eel action in June Smile

Good luck and I'll be keeping an eye on the forum to see what shows up! Hopefully not 4000 eels or you'll be there all night measuring them!
