There is going to be a new Eel pass installed in the heart of Kingston upon Thames in August, and have been asked if we can get some TAC volunteers to help out.

The pass is going under the Clattern Bridge in Kingston to aid fish passage up the Hogsmill as little is being trapped upstream

The project is by the ZSL and Wandle Trust with and congratulations to them for getting this through. The Clattern Bridge is one of the oldest structures in Kingston built in 1293, and understand many hoops had to be jumped through to get it all approved.

So if you fancy volunteering for the day, getting in the river and very hands on, we need your help.

There will be 3 volunteers needed each day, for 4 days (I think) starting week 12th August. Stick you names down on this thread if you can make it midweek and want to be involved.

Nearer the time I will arrange final dates and personnel.

Cheers

I think your pets are safe Dave - I normally blank anyhow (it's Andy Shaw you may have to worry about...)!
It's a wonder they've managed to get permission to install this eel pass at all.
The only rule missing is "No excessive signage". No, no, no! Rolling Eyes

wot gets me is this, its a waterfowl conservation area, and you are not aloud to feed them, so parents cannot take their little children down to feed them, so this upsets the children, as children love feeding the ducks, some of these so called wild life groups have no sense of fun, in fact, there is one sign missing, "do not feed the fish",

Kieth, Neil and ED, can you let me know what days you can do. Andy is away so will slot him in.

There are two places on 12/08, 13/08 & 14/08 and one on 15/08. Not sure of start times but expect a pretty full day.

Joe said it maybe a day less as easier to drill than they thought

I am unable as working but may be down in the mornings.

Cheers

If we agree then:

Monday 12/08
Richard C and .......

Tuesday 13/08
Ed R and Neil D

Wednesday 14/08
Keith C and Andy S

For the 15th we can judge it as maybe completed

Is this ok with everyone

Keith the three fish are salmon and are a reference to The Coat of Arms of the Royal Borough of Kingston when it was granted it's Royal Charter back in the 16th Century. They refer to the three salmon fisheries recorded in Kingston in 1066 in William the Conquerers' Doomsday Book.

Knew that school history project would pay off one day!

Ian is unable on tje 12th due to work commitments, volunteer needed.

All you need is a pair of waders, not sure quite how deep but think thigh will be fine, TBC.
