19 today, biggest 135mm, smallest 75mm.

When out at Barnes on Sat found one under a rock at low tide, they use something called Selective Tidal Transport, so still on the way up.

Hello Everyone

Despite the recent cold weather the eels are still moving. We are trapping fair numbers still at some sites.

I would be grateful if you could start letting me know how many people will be joining us for the eel forum on October the 18th at London Zoo. Please do extend an invitation to everyone who has helped with the project this summer, it is our opportunity to properly thank everyone. To give us time to organise sufficient lunch the latest I need names and numbers by is, October 10th please?

The details are;

· Meeting room opens from 10:30 for tea and coffee.
· Talks start at 11. ( I’ll be giving you news of this year’s monitoring results , Darryl Clifton-Dey of the EA will be talking about pass design and Andy Thomas of the wild Trout Trust will be talking about the work they do).
· 12:30 open discussion.
· Lunch at about 1 and then after that you are free to explore the zoo.

A map and Zoo access details will be with you nearer the date.

Just 2 sub 115 mm eels this morning, I guess we may be coming to the end of their season. The water level was lower than I expected, considering the rain we've had, with nothing going over the new eel run which was being worked on.

Getting near the end of the run I guess, so lets gauge how often it needs checking, probably only going to be twice a week from now on but lets see. When we were at Barnes on Saturday I found an Elver under a rock, meaning some are still coming up.

I'm away fishing the R Wye most of next week so will not be able to do my usual mid-week visit.

Its come to a sudden stop which is to be expected as the river temp has fallen. Next check lets make Weds, then again Saturday.

Been an incredible year overall, who would have thought after none until start of July we would have counted around 2700 odd. Remember we were delighted at 130 in total last year.

One solitary Elver yesterday and some Mittens. Looks like we are at or near the end for this year. I may pop down midweek then next Saturday will likely be the last check for 2013.

All over for this year, trap is being taken out tomorrow. Its a few days early but we have only had 1 in two weeks so unlikely any more numbers.


I wanted to express my thanks to everyone who has been involved this year whether its was just getting trained and being available, checking it a few times, weekends or the hardcore team of Neil and Keith who checked it loads of times.

Its been a truly remarkable year in terms of the numbers through, guessing around 2400 odd, we only had 130  last year so quite incredible.
No other trap up this way has been anything like the migration witnessed at Molesey and is down the the eel team hours put in that we got them all counted and recorded.

Joe is collating the numbers and will tally that against ours, cant wait to see the final count.

As an aside I have been in contact about the slight leak the trap has and about cleaning the whole pass and will update.
