| Hi everybody, We've been contacted by Toby Hull at the South East Rivers Trust, he needs manpower for some work on the Hogsmill! We've done a lot of work with them in the past installing fish and eel passes on the Hogsmill. This can be great fun, very rewarding work. It would be fantastic if any of you are able to volunteer your time to help them out once again. I am currently working up improving eel and fish passage on the Hogsmill gauging station in Kingston (the one immediately downstream of the notched weir we did a couple of years ago). The plan is to remove the broken eel pass and reinstate a newer improved version. Following that, we are installing nine lines of baffles across the sloping face of the weir to facilitate fish passage. I am also needing to 'fix' the next weir up that didn't quite work.
We are hoping to be undertaking some proper monitoring of the work using PIT tags so we want to get the pass installed ahead of the dace migration. This therefore means delivering the work at the end of January/early February. Not ideal but...
I am wondering whether you guys are interested in getting involved again. Your help is always great to have and your company even better. There is a fair bit to do and I expect to be on site for 2-3 weeks. It would really good to have a day or two help from you guys. I expect that at the beginning of the project would be best to help remove and install the eel pass and if possible make a start on the baffles.
I have attached a copy of the FDC application for your perusal to help illustrate what the work entails. FDC APPLICATION: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5hxtSNvkmwwN1FPMHBZR2dLYjVScW93cDdwZ2RWZ0gyYW1r
Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved, no pressure at all though. Please get in touch with any queries.
Many thanks and speak soon,
Toby email: toby@southeastriverstrust.org Senior Project Officer South East Rivers Trust / Wandle TrustPlease email Toby direct, or post up here ASAP if you're interested Thanks
