Had a call from TW saying a rising sewage main in the centre of Cherstey had burst and was spilling over the road into the Bourne.

This happened around lunchtime and Keith is down there now but sounds as if it has been stopped and they are cleaning up. Still a live event though.

Guess saved by high flows and cold weather which will hold up the dissolved oxygen, lucky escape for now, mid summer and would have been a full on disaster for the river.

As an idea, around 15 phone calls in the last hour to and from people.

After getting the sad, lachrymose, poignant news from Dave, I jump on my trusty white steed, with a very hard sadle, thats when i found out that me gear box was frozen and only had low gear, that why me pics are a bit jumpy, out of breath, getting old, found the place, asked a few questens, it went around 1200hrs today, but nothing came up on my rader, so first I heard about it 1830hrs, its only 100yds away from press office, in chertsey, here are some pics and map of area, talking to the people there, wast sewage did go into the Chertsey Bourne but because of the high level and flow of water, it quickly got dilooted, so no fish kills yet,

blue is river

X marks the spot

yellow is rout of poo, but dont hold me to that, that waz the areas they were cleaning up, EA were there in day time, but not when i got there

Sincere thanks for getting out there so rapidly Keith, invaluable mate.

Sadly is Thames Water again and their Victorian infrastructure, def dodged a bullet here, summer and could have been very serious consequences.

Good that they called me but am questioning the level of transparency as it burst at lunchtime and is on our patch. We could have had eyes on the river many hours ago. Will keep the pressure up.

I take it, that no legal action will be taken, as no real damage to fish or river, just the Labour Party pride hurt abit.

will talk to local press, this morning,

That really is too close for comfort - it's almost within casting distance of one of my all-time favourite swims (although that is now virtually unfishable unless the river's up a foot or two, which luckily it has been a few times this year)

just found this, it has taken over 5 days for it to appear, any way, spocke to the people this morning, it should be all fixed by end of play today, due to the high water levels and fast flow of water, no real damage was done, no fish kills were found, if you look at the 3 pics gallery, the 3rd one, this is a small run off ditch, not the river, it runs around the local literary,

you can put commits on it,

Well done guys on highlighting this. It's so bloody frustrating that these water companies (and other offenders) seem to get away scot-free with these incidents the vast majority of times. Fortunately with this type of quick response and a great deal of dedication from you boys, it at least highlights the level of frequency that this happens.
