Had a phone call from local press today, some person is complaining about Anglers leaving all their rubbish behind, the area is dumsey meadow, more then chertsey bridge, not that many people fish the meadow, but a lot of people go there for a bar-bee-Q, so most of the mess is from these people, a lot of people fish around chertsey bridge area, people like me, and there is no mess, if any one is free 2morrow afternoon and can meet me for a good look around, take pics and that, get a story out to tell the press it is not anglers but people going there for a BBQ, mostly,, the changes are this person is anti fishing, with a dog and never picks the dog sh*t up

Hi Keith,

I fished there yesterday evening. The swims on the Kingfisher side of the river, on either side of the bridge were a bit of a mess. I took a load of plastic bottles away with me form the one just in front of the pub, but the one on the Dumsey side of the bridge there is, as you say, a lot of "party" fallout - barbecues, cardboard boxes, cans etc.

Had a reasonable perch, micro gudgeon & dace & lost what I think was a decent pike that had taken something on the way in. All on maggot feeder, trialling a new approach (inline feeders, short hooklinks etc.) before an all-out caster & hemp assault on the Wey barbel in the next few weeks after reading a thread on BFW about it.

New method, low river, few fish, expensive bait, limited time -what can possibly go wrong!

Keith we walked it a 2-weeks ago and like Hugh took a carrier bags of rubbish away, most of it was BBQ from day trippers but did find a few empty meat tins. Its like may of the easy park/fish areas in the summer, gets used and abused. But agree its a percentage angler but small percentage, sadly we get labelled for it Rolling Eyes

THESE are the pics from today, went from chertsey bridge to end of dumsey meadow.

a few empty panda bottles, that kids that is, some BBQ burn makes, there is a group of people from the other side of the channel, from the east, who turn up on a regular basis, with spinners and have a BBQ here, a bag or 2 of dog poo, why put it in a bag and not take it home, there was no stuff there saying that anglers were leaving their mess around, sometimes i find bags of bollies on the ground, but nothing, the area around chertsey bridge is allways/mostly clean, the area i mostly fish, the most rubbish is allways around were the gate is, small car park, sometimes you cannot get past it, this is the area were most people have their BBQs, but today, it was all cleaned up, even the bin was empty,

as you can see, no fishing rubbish, its all kids, dogs and BBQ stuff

I don't think people should leave rubbish around the (full) bin but maybe the council should consider emptying the bin a bit more regularly?

for me thats quite acceptable,at least theyve put it near the bin.
its when its just thrown anywhere , thats just not on.

That's what I always thought, if the bin's full leave it next to it & the council will collect it.
The council boast that those bins are emptied every day after all... scratch

they are not empted at the weekends, the pic you see was taken on a sunday afternoon
