Loads of free parking in Graburn Way opposite Taggs Island. It's a 500m walk downstream.

Who's still on for the training tomorrow morning at Molesey weir chaps?

It does indeed start at 10am.

Yes it is at Molesey lock where Jeff works.

It will last probably about an hour and half or so.

Thanks for everyone's time today. Great that the TAC are monitoring the only eel trap on the whole of the river Thames and that we had such a good show of volunteers.

Well done Andy Banham also for putting yourself out to monitor the Bow Locks trap.

I will put a rota of times to check the trap and need some names added to it. It needs to be checked at least twice a week but can be more often.

Steve the lockkeeper was going to put the gate key on the trap key ring, so you can just pull up to the gate and go and get it, saves the parking hell.

Oli hope you got loads of great pics and look forward to seeing them

Just to stress that only the trained people can check the trap, if anyone esle wants to get involved then Joe at the ZSL has offered more time, what a top man.

The lock keeper did indeed put a car park key on the eel trap keyring, but with the stern admonishment that parking is purely for the purpose of checking the trap - thus you'd have to move your car if intending to fish the weir pool afterwards.

I gather the twice weekly monitoring is for the purposes of fish welfare & the exact timing of reports is not critical to the survey - by which I assume that any registered member of the monitoring team who happens to be down there, say to fish the weir or nearby, could check the trap and report back to save others a special trip. Might be worth checking this is OK with Joe.

Final point - the lock is not manned all the time, I think Steve (or whoever was on duty on Saturday) said they're usually there til at least 6:00 pm, but quite often away visiting other locks etc between I think 12 - 2:00 pm (again worth checking). I thought it would have been a good idea to be able to phone to check the lock were manned before setting out, but Steve didn't like that idea.

Can only assume it must be a pain for the lockies to be out manning the gates/sluices and then have to go answer the phone in the office?

Nice of Steve to sort out a key for us though.

Sounds like it makes sense to have a weekend check and a Tues/Weds check. We should have no problems sorting out a weekend check whilst Steve is there but the mid-week one might take a bit of sorting.

That's exactly the reason. However I'm going to be spitting feathers if I waste an hour's worth of time and petrol on abortive round trips on more than the odd occasion.
