Dave did a superb presentation on the tidal fish kill and scientific data on what lurgies are the Thames.

Angling Trust and the Salmon & Trout Association were there but it was Dave that Thames Water invited to do a presentation. Ed going to the sewer tour and meeting the Thames Water director furthered relationships no doubt.

Keith Arthur was there - we had a good chat with him and Martin Salter TAC patron and former MP.

All the various river and conservation groups decided to work together to try get this tunnel built....importantly including the RSPB. There isn't a more powerful conservation group in the country and for once they'll be working with anglers Smile

Thanks guys. Was the first real time we have put the case across to our all our peers.

As said it included London Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Thames restoration Trust, EA, River Thames Society, Thames 21, Angling Trust plus Keith Arthur, Ben Weir from the anglers mail and more.

Key to the presentation was the images from June 6th, see here https://t-a-c.forumotion.com/t1153-tidal-fish-kill

Plus why it will get worse, abstraction, climate change and of course Hydropower, all these reduce the flow down the river, hence worsening the effects of sewage. No clean water coming down ,the sewage does not get dilluted.

The long periods of dry weather followed by intense storms are now regular, this is worst case senario for our river.

The sewage issue is really beyond just one group, it concerns everyone. The only way to get the real message out is through numbers of voices with the same message, the Tunnel needs to be built and is already long overdue. The river is health hazard to humans and wildlife, the sewage kills all aquatic life and this is in the heart of a modern city.

Next week the 2nd phase of the consultation comes out, doing nothing is simply not an option.

hello
i have been fishing the lower at barnes the last couple of week-ends,
and the signs are a bit better dace roach a few bream and lots of small bass,
which have been around for a couple of months now.
i have put up and given out some posters concerning the sewage when you talk to ,
local people you do get mixed feelings about the tunnel project i think they are more,
worried about traffic mucking up there school run
i think thames water missed a great chance to start some work years ago when the
old water ,
works now the wet-lands center was formed it was a vast site but they sold it off.

keep up all your good work.

jeff tomes.

Hi Jeff, great first post mate and good to hear the fish are feeding. We had a fish in down at Barnes a little while, did we meet you then?

You are spot on about the lack of knowledge about why the Tunnel is needed, its a fact we often state that one side of flood defence is fashionable West London, the other side is raw sewage at times.

Cheers for pushing the message locally and thanks for getting involved on here.

Is there anything in particular we as individuals can be doing to make sure this tunnel gets built? Write to local MPs, for instance?
