Just had this through, sadly was broadcast yesterday, hmmm Evil or Very Mad

What:

Barry Russell (Lower Thames Strategy Manager) recorded an interview yesterday at Boulters Lock about hydropower.



He spoke about:

what our role is in this partnership project

our duty to promote new and sustainable power sources

the amount of electricity currently produced by hydropower and targets for the future

our regulatory role to ensure that there is no detrement to the environment.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

thats where Brent and I spend many a hour. Hydro power plant there would really not make my day why cant they look at the Jubile river which has a small stocking of fish and therefore wont upset so many people.

Right Country Bumpkins goto war with EA over this one.

Major issue with Hydro has been Eels, so they put in fishes passes. Been proved though that the fish are attracted to the turbines, so dont work.

You would think they would screen off the turbines....i mean it aint rocket science. Also what about eel movements upstream, not just elvers but all sizes move around so ladders/passes should be installed to facilitate this.
The Silvers are the ones attracted to downstream high flows and so attracted to the draw made by turbines, whereas the elvers are the opposite as they are generally weak swimmers.
