| Thanks Steve.
Not sure if anyone saw the report in this weeks Anglers Mail, reports of illegal fishing, a real EA bashing.
We have heard from the EA on the back of this and again thanked the TAC for all the reports. I have some numbers on convictions etc and have asked if they ok to post up. Will let you know, its just out of courtesy.
I can say that last weekend they seized 8 set lines at Walton following a member of the publics report into the hotline. These are not anglers, these are poachers. I have asked for what area it was.

| From the EA fisheries team
'We have issued nearly 50 offence reports for close season fishing over a wide area of the Thames and its tributaries this year, but our view is that our increased presence, better signage and support from yourselves has reduced the amount of close season fishing. Last weekend we seized 8 set lines at Walton following a report to our emergency hotline from a member of the public.'

| Asked the question and..
The fixed lines were found spotted being put down in undergrowth, by a resident on the far bank. They in turn reported to the EA who investigated.

| its important that we keep this going, so if you see anything untoward, post it on here
opinion among most anglers in the richmond to chertsey stretch was that there was far less closed season fishing, and very little casting out early on june 15th
our only report of casting in early came from radnor gardens twickenham

| One of our members, not sure who as maybe not online, has found an illegal net on Penton Hook. It has been left in place and was reported to the Lock Keeper.
The EA are down there today to investigate and will report back with photos.
As I said, not sure who it was but did leave a name, we done to him for being vigilant.
So it is happening, keep a close eye out whoever you are on the river, let the EA know if you find anything, and please do report it on here after.

| Top man Keith. Was watching several chub in exactly that spot yesterday taking cover under the grilles...biggest about 4lb or so - hope they didn't get netted. That locky (slight bloke with glasses) at Penton is a top fella aswell, really friendly and not anti-angling - you doing what you do there can only help keep it that way | |

| Subject: Chertsey Bourne Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:58 pm | |
| Took a wander along the banks of the Bourne by Chertsey Library on Sunday on my way back from Desborough Island (still had half an hour of my "green card" to use up). Started off heading up stream & spent a few happy moments watching several shoals of silvers from the various footbridges (which may be getting some attention from my fly road in a couple of hours). I then returned to the Library and headed downstream to be greeted by this: I've eventually managed to contact the right person in the right department @ Runnymede BC (their web site appeared to be down early today) so hopefully all should be removed shortly, unless they're anything like the garden waste recycling service(?!!) which has yet again has failed to empty our green bag on a collecting day. On the subject of the Bourne (Chertsey branch) - one of my favourite swims from years back, on the bend by the library is virtually unfishable now - banks overgrown & branches & rubble in the bottom. Are there any issues involved if I just got in with my waders & started clearing out the obstructions & chopped back some of the bank-side growth? | |
