The issue was reported to the EA this week after your first report. Suggest calling the hotline, that way it get registered there as well. 0800 80 70 60.
The more calls they get the better.
Cheers | |

| Popped in and see a mate on the longwater today and he was on the phone reporting a load of EEs fishing with sea rods and great big lures.. They came and kicked them off and they headed off towards ravens ait again.
I got the stick rod out the other day and thought I would spend the evening trying a few spots on my local river wandle, that was cut short when nearly every hundred yards was a group of them, it's not only now that they are taking fish but they now intimidate you and make you feel uneasy, I would never have had a problem with tucking myself away and doing a night but now I'm not so sure and definately dont feel safe anymore...

| It's about time the Lower Thames became bailiffed...properly bailiffed. Patrols in radio contact for backup with police or council enforcement.
There should be zero tolerance on litter, fires, licence evasion and eating fish.
Bad state of affairs when blokes born here who grew up fishing the river are worried about fishing it.
The EA aren't devoting enough manpower to it - just not enough blokes to cover the ground and you never, ever see them at night which is when the problems are.

| Fishing on penton hook island is on the weir and lock permit, it does not allow night fishing, surely the ivans fishing there are trespassing and in doing so are commiting a criminal offence, i thought we paid for a police force in this country to enforce the law. They have already f--cked up my trade (decorating) and now are doing the same with my leisure activities. I think the old bill should become more proactive with real life instead of appearing in cop shows on tv. james | |

| wot we want and wot we get aint the same
I can never remember a season where someone aint complained about a lack of EA bailiffs, police not taking an interest etc etc
hence the river guardian scheme running on here
get pro-active, do it for yourselves we can meet up and visit these problem areas ourselves, all we gotta do is put our rods down for an evening. and give up a couple of hours
admin are in contact with the EA enforcement weekly, but without all of our help, the problems aint never gonna go away

| Hi all the EA guys are a hard working bunch of guys and as we know do loads for all of the countrys anglers but they are ristricted to when they can work due to good old h+s. we are doing all we can on the middle/upper to combat the explosion of ALL illigal fishing (i'm now a baliff for the club im in) but there are times that even i'm a bit dubious of approching people ( steve will tell you im not little and afraid only of the wife and my mum) as theres a lot of things to consider. but please remember you are all private individuals and as such have no powers at all (even club baliffs have limited powers) dont put yourselves at risk, stand back watch what people are doing and call the ea and get the local police non emergency call number, now before you all state this is a emergency it is not. you will get more co-operation from local police forces if you call that number than you will if you call the 999 line (this is from the horses mouth). then gather as much evidence as you can car registration's what people are wearing dont forget if there bivveid up they aint going far! when you call the police get the crime reference number and pass it to the ea and vice-versa give the police the ea reporting numbe agencys do work together and it all links in. at the end of the day folks is it worth getting arrested for a public order offence? or worse still. Please dont get the tagg of vigilante's lets try to do this the right way. I dont mind helping out when I can and I can offer short traning sessions regarding use of force/self defence, basic law but please guys use your heads first dont let your anger guide you in this. I feel if we all make enough offical noise then the ea/police will have to act if not then if its all documented thenas a club lets hand it over to the legal team at the anglers trust to see what they can do. but please guys stay safe i dont want to have to goto a funeral or visit anyone in the scrubs mind you a few mates work there lol Andy | |

This is what I've been saying mate. These TAC night-time 'educational' bankside visits could get out of order within seconds. Council dog patrols, EA enforcement and police are paid to ensure no laws are broken - it's their job. After all, we do pay them to do it thru council tax, fishing licence fee and income tax respectively. The agencies already know the hotspots and should get on and do their job.

| poppy cock chaps
they'll only get out of hand if those that take part, allow it to do so, if they stick within the law, it wont be a problem
perhaps those that are more concerned about things escalating, could offer a calming influence to the whole situation if present
I for one will be joining andre, our polish member at the weekend to visit an area or two, and will not inflame the situation, but will gather first hand info, just like the other weekend when we were joined by michael
we'd be idiots to pass up the opportunity to have a polish speaker present

| Sorry Jim but i complety dissagree with you on this.We as a club should not be doing this sort of thing and I feel it will only end in tears. I will not take part in this in any way as i fear it will end in police involvment but not in a positive way.Jim,dont forget you have no authority to ask anyone to stop what they are doing even if its illigal and whatever way you dress up these night time visits to hotspots its still not our/your role to do this.
sorry but there you have it 25 years in conflict management tells me that if you go and speak to a drunk 20yr old lad and find he does not have the required licence/permit to fish and you ask him to leave he will react in a confrontational manner. the police and the ea are trained and equipped to deal with this we as a club are not.Not forgetting the possabilty that you may come across kids fishing without a licence are you going to tell them to leave the river as well?.Asking them to leave will bring a whole new light onto things.
Gather the evidence and contact the powers that be and let them deal with it.
my opinion only chaps you are free to do what you want and as i said please be carefull
Andy

m8 i have been waiting for a reply for nearly 2 weeks from the ea about an issue. the police dont want to get involed as there never enough officers to attend any problems as this is what they say. the ea just give you a ref number and thats the end of that, instead of them getting rid of there enforcement officers they should be employing more, they get enough from rod licences surely to employ a couple more as the more they catch with no licence they will benefit from the fines or am i wrong. its a hard one this but something needs to be done soon as it is getting out of controll and can see a lot of problems happening on the banks.....

| fines go to the treasury, but court costs of £30 -£50 go back to the EA, basically the EA are out of pocket, with every prosecution less of our money is left for improving fishing
chaps I reiterate my earlier statement, ACT WITHIN THE LAW
attendance and observation are what I propose, with the safety net of having someone present who can understand what a polish person may be saying in his native tongue
there can be no better way of diffusing a situation than to be able to communicate
robin hood, zorro, or robocop aint on the agenda, but until someone offers an alternative, we're between a rock and a weed bed, eternally standing by while no-one or no organisation acts
the mindset of no involvement, let the authorities deal with it, has brought about no go areas within our cities, and the solution to that is trumpeted as greater involvement from the local communities
so lets try to compromise, we've had one successful visit to desbrough island, with no problems, surely it is not unreasonable to do another, and then reassess the consequences and results
soz folks, but you all know I'm a do'er, sometimes its a result, but equally as you state, it has the potential to go pete tong
opinions as always, 'cause without dialogue it aint never gonna be right

| Gents i think you forget we are all grown men who should know right from wrong and if we see someone stepping out of line we should act on it for our own sakes the amount of anglers have met who wont fish the thames at night is amazing because they fear for there safety but it should be like that. im not saying start a lynch mob just a few regular visits to areas were we are told there are problems and notifying the correct authoroties when we see anything. the evening jim andre and myself did on desbourgh we found no problem and to be honest we handed out a handfull of TAC flyers and spread the word these people included eastern europeans who were fishing legally it only took an hour or so and i thought it was very usefullwe met lots of anglers and it was nice to hear what they had be catching. all in all it was a good night and i would definstly be doing it again. | |

| nice one Michael i agree and wil attend the next one. spreding the word and not looking for a punch up. is exactly what it is!! with two unfortunate incedents on the bank and lots of stupid rumour our river is not and should not become a no go area. for the last two seasons i have night fished on the Thames between staines and sunbury at least once a month on my own and with my 12yr old son with no problem at all. | |
