| Trevor came up with the idea that, since we have to be there every month to do the riverfly sampling anyway, we should organise a litter pick on the Crane at the same time, it makes perfect sense. The next sampling is Saturday 13th December, we meet at 10:00am Park in River Gardens, just inside the industrial estate past where the road passes over the Duke of Northumberland River. There's tons of litter right there along the bank both sides of the bridge. There's plenty of litter continuing along the DNR bank, but the next real hot-spot is around the weir where the two rivers join. If anyone has an old landing net we could remove some of the polystyrene and bottles trapped against the mill-race penstocks which would be nice. The only thing to remember is, not get in to the DNR water and stir it up too much by removing things, until after we've taken the water quality sample at site 10. Park and meet up by the green line Litter pick along the red dotted lines. Our sample sites are at the larger red blobs. Hope to see a few of you there - there should be a few thousand more fish back in the river by then! | |

| Hopefully I will be there Saturday, spent an hours spinning on Saturday alas no fish but hopefully can re-claim 2 lost spinners!
There is a lot rubbish to clear away, but that do not deter our feathered friends - 2 swans and 1 kingfisher | |

| Jeff, Neil, Trevor & myself met up and collected 10 good bags of rubbish mostly from along the DNR. We could probably have collected 10 more, especially if we'd got in the river, but simply not enough time! We removed quite a few carrier bags and such like from in the river around our sampling site 10, unfortunately an industrial sized bag just upstream turned out to contain a dead badly decomposed dog (or fox, or something) and the smell was just something else. Don't know whether the effluent from this would have affected the water quality and riverfly scores over the past couple of months but it's not in there now anyhow. Thanks guys, and good to meet you at last Jeff. | |

| That's too bad, Jeff. Where did you park, we always go on a single yellow in the industrial estate, I thought it was OK at weekends Hounslow should have collected the rubbish, they called me twice beforehand to check, I will chase them. | |

| Bags still there this afternoon when I went by, and there were some new bags of Carling Black Label deposited along the path where we collected so many last week. I added those to the stash and pinged the council an email as a bit of a nudge. | |

| Thing is, after I emailed them the first time, I was actually phoned back (twice, by different people) to thank us and confirm the location we would leave the rubbish. Ah well, I'm off work now so have some free time to chase them... | |

| Someone is hell-bent on dumping bags of beer cans along that DNR stretch every week, Trevor and I collected another black bin bag full of Carling & Carlsberg cans again today. Plenty more remain, if only we'd had time to have a really good go at it. | |
