| It was wet but the hardy 6 walked it anyway, eager to discover interesting river bed features. The rain did eventually easy up and finally stopped by the time we reached Ham House. There were 4 large trees down right across the path. Dave discovered eels under a rock then started finding more eels under just about every large rock. I took these photos before dropping my camera in the river which did it no good at all. https://picasaweb.google.com/105140280237210420217/SemiTidalDrawOffWalk?authkey=Gv1sRgCNi14LTpw5jp4AE | |

| I think it was a bit of fungus deemed responsible for the fallen tree John! Did you spot the Zebra Mussel in Kev's shellfish picture? The moped was too big for just Matthew & me to retrieve, added photo on fixmystreet: http://www.fixmystreet.com/report/401097 | |

| The bag of rice trick worked, my camera has indeed dried out and revived from the dead. Unfortunately the river water was so full of silt that it is all through the lens and CCD internally, the only pictures possble are varying shades of fuzzy specked brown I did rinse it a little under the tap at home first but perhaps a more thorough bathing and re-drying will clean it. I guess there's nothing to lose now. | |

I think so - wedged sideways between a stone & another mussel? BTW are those other, greenish tinged moluscs Depressed River Musssels?

BTW are those other, greenish tinged moluscs Depressed River Musssels? Yes Paul - at a certain stretch there were mounds of them washed up on the foreshore. Slightly further down at Ham car park you can find living specimens of zebra mussels and clams, but I haven't seen a living mussel yet - though I have found recently departed ones (i.e. with flesh still attached inside).
