| Weird Ed, was ok earlier, will see if it is elsewhere.
Next week the whole issue is going to hit the proverbial fan.

| The next week is critical to the river and getting the preferred solution built. Expect lots of fireworks and huge opposition. | |

| i caught some of the interview with the thames spokesman who said funding has not been agreed and they are working with the enviroment agency and defra. is it going to be built? he admitted more raw sewage had to be dumped in the thames again. | |

| i find it all a bit sad really, 21st century london and we are still pumping raw sewage into the thames. we're going backwards not forwards. if the non fishing public were aware (as i don't think most people are) they would be disgusted. if we as anglers can spread the word and get some publicity on the subject i'm sure we would gather a great deal of support. we should get out there and educate people, maybe go out along the thames at some busy tourist locations (london eye, london aquarium, houses of parliament) with posters leaflets etc, or some sort of well timed protest, anything to get our point across.

David Walliams did his bit on the Jonathan Ross show a week or so ago but it probably went directly from ear to ear, totally bypassing the brain of most viewers.

| Colin the AM may have something in on Tuesday with any luck. Tim K has been a great supporter and always asks the TAC for comments about the Thames | |

| Anyone got a link to Thames Waters' "knee-jerk response" to the Tunnel Comission's report? | |

| I went to the launch of the Thames Tunnel Phase 2 consultation this evening. It was mostly aimed at informing press reporters and local councillors ahead of tomorrows launch. There were presentations by: - Richard Aylard (Thames Water, external affairs) on the need for the tunnel,
- Mark Lloyd (Angling Trust) on his vision of what a clean Thames could be like
- Phil Stride (Thames Water, head of London tideway tunnels) on the phase 2 consultation, revised plans, costings and timescales.
The information presented is embargoed until midnight tonight, at which point a new website will go live with all the information. Apparently a lot has already been leaked on Twitter etc. though, its only a couple of hours away and this is a members-only forum so here are a few snippets:
- Phase 2 consultation runs from tomorrow until February 2012
- Building won't now start until 2016 will take 6 years and finish in 2022
- The main tunneling site is at Battersea. They will tunnel east to Chambers Wharf and on to Abbey Mills, and also west from Battersea to Carnwarth Road (there's lots of other tunnelling going on in half-a-dozen different locations at once, I wasn't able to note it all down)
- It'll take about a year to clear, prepare and get going on each site, after about 18 months the sink holes will be complete, then its all the tunnelling work between them with special boring machines, different types being necessary for different geologies.
- 90% of the spoil will be taken out by barge, also a new railhead may be built at Battersea, this all increases the cost somewhat
- Cost is up from £3.6bn to £4.1bn (at 2011 prices)
- There will be no impact on bills until at least 2013.
- Increase in bills will be £70-£80 per year which will bring Thames region bills up to the national average.

| Thanks Ed, nothing like inside info.
Firstly the delayed start is a blow, thst means at least 11 more years of sewage, i wonder what will be left.
The fact they are going to barge away at least 90% is highly significant. The campaigns from rats and stop the shaft have all be around many years of disruption.
It will have local impact, that there is no doubt and will be a nightmare for anyone living close, but this means TW did listen and did act.
Lets see the full report later and digest
