TAC visit to Tideway Tunnel Exhibition in Parliament Empty
PostSubject: TAC visit to Tideway Tunnel Exhibition in Parliament   TAC visit to Tideway Tunnel Exhibition in Parliament EmptyMon Mar 13, 2017 11:01 pm

I visited the launch of the Thames Tideway Tunnel exhibition in parliament this evening.  It was a fairly small affair as most MPs were off debating BREXIT and so on, but the exhibition will remain there for several weeks.

I spoke with a number of people from the Tideway Tunnel project, Thames Water, Thames 21 and the River Thames Society, raising the issue of sewage fungus in the Crane amongst other things.  A couple of people stated that, as founder members of Thames Tunnel Now, we played a pivotal role in getting momentum behind the tunnel project and were extremely grateful.  The timing of it has been just right as well, the low interest climate means it will be built at much lower cost to ratepayers than had previously been forecast - it's come down from some £75 per bill payer to £25!

The tunnel will generate quite a lot of jobs and they are aiming for 50/50 women/men equality, currently 36/64, so getting there slowly.

I challenged Debbie Leach of Thames21 to get some plastic water bottle legislation in place before the tunnel is completed Wink
Made a useful biodiversity contact at Thames Water who is based in Mogden.

Expect some photos later, also I asked if they can get some before and after footage of the river Lea downstream of the old Abbey Mills discharge now that the tunnel there is operational.

Well done Ed, looking forward to the photos. I was talking to a client who has a
river fronted property at Wapping and he told me something which might be of interest.
The Port of London's authority on the foreshore does not extend from The Prospect of Whitby Pub to The
old Harbour Masters house near Tower Bridge, but goes back to some old 17th century charitable Housing Trust.
Work has not started yet at The king Edward Memorial Park in Wapping, for the Tideway Tunnel but I
will keep you posted on any progress.
