A very short practise session there last Sunday, went out on 90gram swim feeder from off.
Tide was running strong and using a stick was inpractible. three dace staight away, followed by a
school Bass, went down to 50 gram feeder and a 3 pound Bream was in.Packed up at 9 am when tide turned.Be different Sunday when theres more anglers fishing. If you sit it out on pellet ,could be the way, lets see.

Sounds nice, I wonder if sea fish will be counted in the match (or sea trout for that matter?).

I have caught tiny little ones when fishing for lives before, would love to catch a proper size one some day.

Im off up to Kew bridge in the Morning,as I managed to get my ticket for the Tidefest 2014 match being held this Sunday 28th September,Depending which area I get pegged in I am geering up for the bream that inhabit this area,I have heard some top guns are going to be there so dont hold your breath as to who will win it,although if you fall on the fish who knows,It will be a great crack, and I will enjoy the day,Im hopeing to meet a good few tack members at the draw,so if you are asked if your tac members its only me trying to put names to faces,I have got ticket no 40 if that means anything on the day, Hope to meet some of you there.Good luck to anyone else taking part.

Hi Harry,
I will give you a match report on my match. It was a good atomosphere at the start with Martin
Slater of the Trust kicking off proceedings. There was some good matchmen there travelling from
afar a field as Sheffield and Hereford.Dave Harrell avertised the match on his facebook page a couple of weeks ago, with a fiver to win 500 quid comment. The area to draw was pegs 1-15 down from Kew Bridge where the bream weights came from,I was 2nd to draw after Dave,Peg 25
on the snaggy shallows .Dave drew 10.Well they say the best laid plans of mice and men,My first cast with a 90 gram Korum flat feeder cracked off, within half a hour I got snagged twice one time pulling in a 10 foot windshield rubber seal. The receeding tide revealed oil drum, wire milk crate from the 60,s ,car stereos, boat cast iron chain ,a brass engine plaque dated 1944 etc, etc.I went on stick float waded out 30 foot from shore and had 5 dace ,1 perch and two school Bass for 12 ounces. The winner from Hereford (peg 12) had six bream for 33 pounds.Dave had two Bream. The Mayor of whatever presented him with the engraved plate(£400 according to Mr Slater)Will I do it next year?Off course I will.I did not find the boat club where the barbie was free to competitors but I did enjoy the ice cold Apinalls cider at the Bull Pub on a hot day afterwards.

Nice one John, pity about the snags but it was a lovely day nonetheless.

I think Dave also lost an equivalent weight in feeders, very snaggy eveywhere.
I hope you kept the brass engine plaque from 1944 John, was it from a steam engine or just a small thing from a boat?

I went back in the afternoon with the family, the kids had a go at the paddleboarding.  Safer once the anglers had packed up!

Hi Ed,

The brass plaque is 3x4 inches,with J.L &S Ltd.on it.Underneath is Mk V1
No 18670
Date 1944
No relation to me,I also keep a flat crowbar. And I recovered one of my feeders.I was on the stick for the last hour and half and pulled out of a big bream. The guy from Shefield had a daughter who lives in Acton was on the other side of the railway bridge and had two bream and a 9 ounce Dace for 12 pound odd.(feeder).

Nice report John, was patchy but everyone I think caught and can only see this being the hottest ticket next year. Had a quick chat after and talked about a 60 pegger, with 30 of them at Barnes, could work.

Great to see lots of TAC members, thank you folks. I as John said had 2 bream and lost another. Lost more end tackle than I care to mention and ran out of smaller feeders Tidefest Match 28th September - Kew - Page 2 3885384717

Decided as the Bream were feeding to go all out with bigger hooks, hair rigged pellet but failed, but pleased that the initial switch to worms did get some bites. Will definitely fish next year and be more prepared for it.

Great day all round, pics and winning section/overall weights to follow when i get them

Angling trust media release 1st Oct 2014

Great Start for First TideFest Angling Match

A wonderful first TideFest was held on the tidal Thames on Sunday September 28 at Kew Bridge, Isleworth, Chiswick and in the Wandle Valley on Sunday to commemorate World Rivers Day.

Visitors enjoyed a host of activities that were organised place along the Thames Tideway  including paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, angling, foreshore exploration, river dipping, wildlife spotting and a heritage walk.

The Angling Trust organised held a successful match at Strand on the Green, downstream of Kew Bridge, and congratulations went to worthy winner Clive Westwood for his fine feeder caught catch of 34lbs 8ozs of mainly bream which earned him a lovely trophy and a cool £500. Second was James Thornhill from the charity Get Hooked on Fishing (which also received a £200 donation from the participating anglers) with 21.05 followed by Keith Clark with 16.15 for third place. The sponsors Thames Tideway Tunnel have confirmed for next year and the organising committee are already making plans for a bigger event for 2015 on the last Sunday in September. This may include a 60 peg pairs match over two sections.

The Angling Trust's Martin Salter, one of the event organisers, said:  " Despite the bright sunshine and the less than ideal conditions for fishing there were some good bags recorded and it was great to see so many people out on the river celebrating what the Thames Tideway has to offer and to mark World Rivers Day. With the new super sewer now being given the go ahead and our sponsors already confirmed for next year we can really look forward to a brighter and fish filled future for London's river. TideFest will not only be a bigger and better match in 2015, it will provide an all important health check on the condition of the Thames Tideway. "

TideFest is a new river Thames event taking place to highlight and celebrate the recreational importance of the Thames Tideway to Londoners. TideFest is part of the Totally Thames festival and is supported by the Living Wandle Landscape Partnership and the Thames Tunnel Now Coalition which includes RSPB, London Wildlife Trust, Thames21, WWF, River Thames Society and the Angling Trust.

World Rivers Day began in Canada 30 years ago but became officially recognised as a global event by the United Nations in 2005 as part of their 'Water for Life' decade. It takes place every year on the last Saturday in September and involves thousands people across the planet in projects as diverse as identifying illegal dumping sites in Russia, holding community awareness programmes in West Africa, organising community clean ups in Poland and highlighting the need for better sewage treatment for the River Ganges in India.

It was the prospect of an ever cleaner river Thames in the heart of London that brought wildlife and conservation groups together to organise TideFest. Last year saw long overdue improvements at Mogden Sewage Treatment Works as part of a wider £5.4bn plan to clean up the river including the £635m Lee Tunnel, and the £4.2bn Thames Tideway Tunnel which the Angling Trust looks forward to seeing completed.
