Wandle "Bridge to Nowhere" is 5

This is a new one to me, but it came up in a search for Wandle this morning.
I'm sure all Wandle regulars are well aware of it.

The Bridge To Nowhere is Five

Five years ago next Wednesday a footbridge was installed over the River Wandle, which couldn't be crossed then and cannot be crossed now. Despite promises from Merton Council too numerous to mention, and another footbridge being installed over the same river elsewhere in the borough, this farce plays on. We're "celebrating" in the style of previous years at the bridge at 7:30pm on Wednesday. The saga is chronicled in detail at http://collierswoodresidentsassociation.org.uk/bridge/

(The Local Guardian group newspaper article was dated 16th August but the birthday was actually 20th June)
