Yesterday I received a PM from a new member asking:

Quote :
I have just joined TAC as a result of meeting a TAC member near Hammersmith Bridge a few weeks ago. What I would like to know is this: I often collect rubbish at the slipway by Church Lane Chiswick and the other day the slipway was 100% cleaned of ALL rubbish and flotsam and jetsam. Completely. It was as if a road sweeper lorry had been there. It was most unlikely that the tide, or people, cleaned it. Does anyone know how this is likely to have happened?

We have known that there is a litter problem in that area for a while:
https://t-a-c.forumotion.com/t1363p1-tidal-sewage-and-whats-left-behind

Now imagine my surprise last night when the TV showed a short clip of people clearing rubbish from that very slipway in Hammersmith; It was a trailer for "Inside Out" on BBC1 7:30pm Mon 5th Dec (tonight):
Inside Out - Mike Dilger reveals how we're dumping nearly 50 lorry loads of rubbish into the Thames each year.

I would like to watch the programme tonight before making any comment,
although i do have my own thoughts regarding the miraculous clear up that has taken place.
cheers

Looked at the area T21 were cleaning, James knows it well. All the cr*p will be back very quickly. Would like to have heard something about the sewage being mentioned at the start.

Always has been a collection area, there and slightly down stream by the pub, me and a mate used to fish it when we were kids, my mate once had a syringe stuck in his foot and had to saddle him to charing cross, we never fished it again but he was fine after many tests.
Always managed to find an old football that kept us busy while waiting for bites.

They should strategically locate one of those floating rubbish-eater-cages in the current near there.

Typical BBC really, very disappointing.
No mention of sewage, as a resident of this area, i walk pass that spot every morning/evening, that is the first time i have ever seen Thames21 down there, i think it was cobbled together for the programme.
There used to be a group called "Friends of the Fulham foreshore", that used to do monthly litter picks in this exact spot, they were stopped from doing this thanks to the "health and safety mob at the local council worried about people getting trapped in the mud, it begs the question how did Thames21 get permission, although i did notice they never actually went onto the foreshore, if they did they would have found an even bigger rubbish pile, maybe that would of been a bit too dangerous for the lovies at the BBC, as for the steel cages, every time i have seen them they are empty and the majority of the time there on the wrong bank.
I joined in a few of these litter picks, as did a lot of local people, who, although i never knew them personally, i recognised them for being local people, the people on this show were, i reckon, BBC ringers, especially the bloke who claimed to run pass three or four times a week, its quite a high wall to see over.
No BBC programme that involves the Thames would be complete without a mention from them sad, mad old women who run the Swan Sanctuary, the swans used to be wild on the Thames, now they are tame idiot birds.
Plastic fishing line?
Lastly, how about the presenter, wild life expert?
Hand on hearts lads, to all you guys out there that fish the lower Thames regularly can you recall in the last thirty years catching or seeing caught a Rudd or a Grayling.

The programme was crap, i must admit the preceeding section of the show made me smile, about the "king of the vikings" olaf the hairy, filling up his scrot with plastic to get a better boyfriend, i nearly laughed me giblets off.

Dont you just love the BBC

In reply to the question that was raised by the gentleman who has just joined the TAC, regarding the mystery clearing of the slipway at Church lane, Chiswick, my own opinion is, i think he will find that it was done by the local council as a gesture of goodwill, after they have gone against public opinion on two separate occasions and granted fast track planning permission for even more luxury flats to be built. I hope they realise that they have pushed it to far this time and trodden on the wrong feet, very influential people in that manor.
I know this is not about fishing , but the more flats they build, the more toilets, the more turds.
They can fast track planning for luxury apartments, (to be bought by foreigners) but drag their heels on the tunnel.
They cannot move the cages from where they are Ed, otherwise the mob in the houses of parliament will have to put up with turds and dead dogs floating by whilst they have tea on the veranda.

The opening sentence annoyed me where he spun out the old "cleanest it's been for 50 years" spiel without so much as a passing mention of sewage.

James I love your summary, I'm with you 100%.
