Hi Nathan and welcome to the TAC forum

The flow over last few months has been caused by firsty all the snow melt and the rain.

It has had periods where it has calmed down but that many.

We have two of the lock keepers who ares TAC members and on here as well so hope they will reply and give some technical/ operational background.

Jeff Kennet is at Teddingtion lock and Colin Brandon at Richmond.

Hi Nathan

You'll always find a strong flow in the winter compared to that in the summer. I'd say the flow over the last 2/3 months has (with the exception of a couple of floods) been lighter than you'd expect to find during most winters. Info is published by the PLA & EA regarding fluvial flows, averages, volumes etc on the websites.

As for when it'll calm down, my guess would be 15th March..............!!

River Thames Flow Empty
PostSubject: Re: River Thames Flow   River Thames Flow EmptySun Feb 27, 2011 3:25 pm

I went prebaiting today at hampton court and it was high , chocolate colour and water surface was oily , however the flow wasn't bad , I was baiting with a range of boilies ranging from 22mm - 8mm and they were droping straight to the bottom Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy. I also saw a nice head of mid doubles in the spot so think its working lol the head of carp were eating the boilies as I was frowing em in Very Happy so defo know the bigger residents are coming along aswell , saw two polish guys aswel and they said they had 2 pike and 3 perch out on spinning gear , I see the pictures and I must say they were looking after the fish so can't fault em , there was another guy on the bank but don't know if he had any

So on the upside the flow seems ok , the thames is fishing well and carp are on my spot so alls good in my mind

Also plz follow my diary on the forum which is called "diary of a carper" thanks

just be careful who sees you baiting up a spot , all your hard work will come undone otherwise mate and id hate to see that . I suggest if there on the spot now they are confident in feeding there after previous prebait sessions and reccies . Get a rod in there now mate before the cold snap comes again , cos its on its way mate !!!
Best of luck conor .

as far as i know its not mate , a well known tip is to grab some loose sticks and brambles off the floor and deck the floor out . I think that should do the job nicely . Done it myself before . Makes a safer platform to stand on instead of sliding down and into the wet stuff lol
