There will be a reply going to Mr Johnson to also highlight the London Assembly knew of a major issue back in 2004 and commented on it. The river users are not only rower but the greatest conservationists, anglers.

One of the comments to Boris's article said that the TT Tunnel had been "approved" in 2007 under Ken's Mayorship.

I'm not sure what type of approval was being referred to.

Just a shame it has taken a celebrity swimmer to get this into the news. Hope now it will move forward and the local councils and objectors button it. Sometimes I think they cant even be using the toilet.

Staggering report, I am speechless. Just one quote sums it up:

'Independent consultant Chris Binnie submitted evidence to Lord Selborne's Thames Tunnel Commission (TTC) this week accepting that his 2006 recommendations, that have formed the bedrock of Thames Water's case for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, may now be out of date and should be revisited'

Its posted on Hammersmith and Fulham's website, that in my opinion have been running an anti sewer capaign through the papers and it stinks, like the tidal river.

http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/News/Sewer_research_out_of_date.asp#4

And

http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/super_sewer_expert_says_3_6b_plans_should_be_reconsidered_1_1022498

In Mr Binnie’s evidence, he also accepted that the millions spent on researching the Thames Tunnel far outweighed that spent on other options.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council leader, Stephen Greenhalgh, whose authority is leading a assembly of councils against the plans, said Mr Binnie’s evidence “blows a major hole” in the utility giant’s arguments.

“Now is the time for Thames Water to start listening to the expert who was once on their payroll and go back to the drawing board,” he added.

Thames Water said it has undertaken “extensive further work” since Mr Binnie’s study.

Yes mate spot on, an absolute tragedy if they go back to the drawing board.

Have calmed down a little from earlier.

Here are few unpublished pics from 6th June that have just been sorted out, thanks Willie, top man.

I actually posted the following link on another forum, where I'd also (unrelatedly) been posting about the Thames sewage problems and someone responded that this could be the "easiest & cheapest" solution.

So there we go - LBH&F, get the Tunnel postponed/cancelled/whatever & issue these to your residents:

http://www.boginabag.co.uk/buy-boginabag-products.aspx

The little black bags could be collected along with the recycling every Monday.

(PS also useful for bivvy boys so long as they took their bags home with them. Think I might have collected one from Desborough Island the other week)

Read the line "resident sends picture to local MP and complains about the stench".
That, and more is whats needed to show the suits, the seriousness of this problem, not just anglers complaining.

Good link Dave, and it's nice to see the 'local rag' (no pun intended!) supporting the tunnel. Sooner this thing gets built the better...

Spot on Paul he is working as some sort of consultant. In terms of a politician was the angling representative and got it fully on the map. Guess if they want someone who is passionate about the river and fished it it all his life and can help try and push this through, he is the man. The Thames has needed a solution for the last fifty years, shame it taking major fish kills and a celebrity swimmer to make the headlines. Headlines should be 3lb Roach caught at Kew..

On a brighter note Dave, i watched four cormorants fishing right outside my house tonight and they were coming up with loads of silver fish, i found it strange though, as they normally fish on the down tide, they were filling their boots on the incoming tide. still at least it shows fish are returning to the stretch, ( until the next bout of pollution).

London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham opposes the building of the Thames tunnel on the grounds that it will create havoc for the local community, and yet, via the back door, they have just passed planning permission for the building of 2500 luxury riverside apartments on a site where Thames water have their pumping station.
No doubt each flat will have at least three toilets, 7500 new toilets on the banks of the Thames, more concrete blocking the water table, more car emissions to wash down the drains, at no time has the council given a toss about the residents of this area.
I and other residents around here received the latest glossy tosh from the developer, "St Georges" just 4 weeks ago and obviously there was no mention of the sewage discharge on the river banks, no pictures of floating turds, condoms and the like, The thing that makes you sick is the only people to profit out of these schemes are foreign investors, local people are treated like the brown things floating down the river.
Thames Tunnel? not with these people running (ruining) the country. Evil or Very Mad

Presumably this is the scheme they are calling "Fulham Reach"?

Fulham Retch might be a more accurate name in respect of the lingering pong, as reported by a mate that lives near there.

Thinking about it, St George might even be prepared to get on board with Thames Water & lobby for the tunnel. They are close to TW after all, having bought the site from them, and owning a company jointly with them back in the 80's & 90's set up to develop surplus TW sites.

St George is proud to announce the forthcoming launch of the prestigious new riverside development, Fulham Reach, London, W6. Located on the north bank of the River Thames, Fulham Reach will provide a stunning new riverside destination.

The development will consist of highly specified river view apartments and penthouses, excellent transport links, and unrivalled residents facilities; spa, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, residents lounge, concierge, parking, billiards room and private wine storage.

I like the last bit:
unrivalled residents facilities, spa, sauna, swimming pool, steam room, residents lounge, concierge, parking, billiards room and a jolly old private wine store.
i wonder if they would let me in?
Wait till they get a load of Fulham palace rd, the drunks on the river path and when Fulham play Cardiff in a midweek game.
Oh yea, and the neighbouring flats just happens to have the moniker of Crack city.
St Georges help with the tunnel? you must be having a tin bath mate, there,s no profit in shite
