Read on chaps, this is one of the reasons why Jim started the TAC...

From the BBC on 27th Nov 2009

The Thames holds a dirty secret. Millions of tonnes of rainwater mixed with raw sewage is pumped into the river every year.

Because of an increase in population and loss of green spaces, for the last 15 years the problem has been getting worse.

Already in November we have seen 9.2 million tonnes of combined rainwater and sewage pumped into our rivers.

In terms of volume released, it is on course to be the worst month in years.

However, in summer when there is less water in the Thames and what we have is warmer, we are more likely to see fish die because of the pollution.

Thames Sewage in the Press Empty

Lads I sometimes fish near water works in Sunbury and see water coming out from the water works thru pipes into the river. Watched it gush out hard this evening. It hasn't rained so won't be flood overflow etc.

Will it be raw sewage? Or will it be treated water? I've been close to it before and noticed no smell and nothing floating about but didn't exactly wade in it to check. What else could it be other than sewage?

I'm just wondering if there's some extraction deal where they let the river have back normal river water that's not used?

Anyone know?
