| Please help survey outfalls on the River Crane and Yeading BrookCitizen Crane water quality data gathered by volunteers shows that ammonia is found in the river at concentrations that are damaging to its wildlife. There are over 150 surface water outfalls into the river and some of these are the likely source of much of this pollution. We are looking for volunteers to help conduct the Crane’s first Outfall Safari by surveying stretches of the river and, with the help of a mobile app, mapping and recording the impact of each outfall. This survey will greatly improve our understanding of the river system and help to target the most polluting sources Together we can map the whole catchment You can choose which stretch of the river you want to survey and bring your friends (no lone surveying) Briefing sessions for volunteers will take place at:Saturday May 7th @ 4pm, Ruislip Golf Club, Ruislip Monday May 9th @ 6pm, The Shot Tower, Crane Park Island, Twickenham Wednesday May 11th @ 6pm, Yeading Brook Meadows, Hayes Please register your interest here: http://craneoutfalls.eventbrite.co.uk | |

| Trevor, Matthew and I particpated in the Crane Outfall Safari last weekend and recorded about 8 outfalls. Though none of them looked particularly bad at the time there had not been any rain for a while, we recorded all that we found anyway. There's a facebook page been set up for the job, they are finding some really bad discharges upstream in Harrow and at Roxbourne Park. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1729456350664331/ | |

| Good work Ed. Those mis-connections are hard to find, maybe monitoring the outflows you've found, will enable the boys to reduce some of the crap that comes in. | |

| Update from Joe:
162 records have now been uploaded and remarkably we have nearly covered the whole catchment.
The gaps are: A30 to Cranford Park, Rayners Lane to Headstone and a small section south of Newton Park on the Yeading East, that has to be surveyed from within the channel.
I think Ed and Trevor have the A30 in hand. Chris, are you happy to continue up to Headstone or would you like me to make other arrangements for that?
Thank you all for fantastic support with this. I believe this is the first of its kind and has been a very illuminating experience not least because we have proved it can be done relatively simply. We'll start preparing a report on your work and will get it to you as soon as we can. | |
