| It does look like a Barbel yes, Someone else thought it was a common Carp, hard to tell but certainty a specimen. | |

| It is nature for sure mate, spot on. Question whether it should really be there is another thing, a predatory animal not in its natural habitat. Guess all about that balance, but if its talking lots of fish the damage could be huge.
Where was the picture posted as can see local news reports but all happy clappy stuff.

| "Teddington lock keeper Howard Miatt had a phone call from a resident of Trowlock Island on Wednesday last week to say the seal was feeding there
"We do get them up here from time to time," he added.
"They tend to follow fish up from the coast. The fish are in a narrow waterway, so they [the seals] stay up here until they have exhausted the fish supply and get bored."
Let's hope he's wrong!

| If this was 100 years ago then people would likely move it on or kill it to protect what they have, now we call it nature? In this environment it is the no1 predator and out of its natural habitat.
Difficult one for sure, but it will eat what 20 odd pounds of fish a day, then if you look at a post flood recovering river that the EA should be protecting, doesnt add up, but yes difficult balance. Very unlike what happened up on the Severn... | |

I imagine it just swam through the lock itself. When there was a seal there about 15 years ago I remember seeing it hanging around the lock gates. Otherwise, it could have climbed over the "portage" ramp, or just swum over the weir itself at high tide, when the water level goes back over the weir. | |

| Its a seal they are trained to get over obstacles in and out of water. Its a long course only the best get through. Plainly the Molesey one is the cream of the crop. | |
