The PPP is a subject that has come up on a number of occasions recently. It is EC legislation put in place to ensure polluters pay for environmental damage.

Have a read, lets see some comments. I will see if we can get some transparency on what has been piad in the past.

Here is another one for you.

Scandalous to even consider a general change in the rules Question

And just in case we think its a recent problem, here is an article from the Independent in 1996, nothing changes and that where the problem lies, nothing does change.

So although the headline court fines are small, the "remidiation costs" are not a voluntary thing but actually a part of this directive, and also not covered by the polluters insurance policies.
Might be worth dropping that phrase "remidiation costs" in to the conversation at the next River Crane meeting and watch the look on the Thames Water representative's face as he realises he's been rumbled. My understanding up to now was that what they propose to pay to put it right is something voluntary but they're nice kind people so they'll do it for good PR... seems it isn't.
I wonder if Envoronmental Innovations Limited would have any feasible suggestions as to how the Crane pollution could have been contained or even prevented.

im guessing our water bills will be taking a rise to pay for their disgraceful act on the river crane , to pay for all the damage that was done and restocking , to cover the cost of the fines they receive , if any !!
I think its an absolute disgrace what they did to the river crane .... The fish populations were second to none , a beautiful , clean river and surroundings , lots of wildlife , ie kingfishers , badgers etc .
It is a flaming wildlife reserve ! Or should i say angrily "was" !!!! I am tempted to go to the next meeting , as its on my mum and dads doorstep , and make thames water look stupid infront of everyone , and back it up by horrific pictures i took of the river becoming a large toilet !
