EA rescue fish from the River Churn Empty

The TAC have been sent this report from John Sutton at Thames Fisheries along with the pictures, great work by the EA.

Environment Agency Fisheries Officers rescued over 2000 fish from 2km of the River Churn in the South Cerney and Cerney Wick areas near Cirencester in Gloucestershire . The fish included brown trout, chub, dace, barbel, roach, perch and brook lampreys.

The fish were trapped in pools in the river channel as a result of declining flows. Small numbers of fish had already died. Many more were in danger from suffocation , disease and predetation.

The rescued fish were safely transferred to the the nearby River Thames at Cricklade . They will be able to recolonise their original habitat when flows recover later in the year. We will continue to monitor those reaches of the river that remain at risk.
