a lake called thames young mariners, which is adjoined to the thames via a pair of leaky locky gates, has had its gates locked open for the best part of a week, the result is very low water levels at neap tide and vice versa at high tide

this lake is used as a spawning site by many varieties of fish, but not if its got no water in it

has anyone any news

the mariners gates always seem to be left open this time of year, and despite this, the bream still manage to spawn, albeit not in the lake. TBH, it is not ideal, but it does not seem to have a detrimental effect on the the fish population, especially as the fish are not currently spawning.

the lock gates are always left open for a period of time each year especially around now. i have complained to them as has JG about this as we have found bream spawning in there only for the gates to remain open allowing the spawn to be left high and dry!

as for the big perch, i am as much in the dark as you as to where they have gone, they are certainly on the missing list for me this winter!

yet again the gates have been tied back, this time apparently to allow more fun for the canoeists

it seems every single year, the bream spawn is deliberately left high and dry

we have been trying to get the lock gates inspected to stop the drop of 18in per day, but this deliberate draining smites of the ridiculous

under current legislation section 2, sub section 4, it is illegal to disturb spawning fish, or their spawn, willfully
We are following it up

are the gates now being shut between tides or are they still being left open?

lock gates shut, and the bream are smashing up the banks in a spawning frenzy. All good news gents.
