The most important piece of legislation in Europe concerning the Thames is the Water Frmawork Directive and you can view it via this link;

Hi Richard, it might be worth noting that the phrase "Making space for water" is often used with respect to one aspect of this directive i.e flooding . It will affect many of us living in the Thames region and certainly,regarding Ham Lands, it is a very contentious issue!

Here is the link

I will have a good read Clare, as it will naturally have immense effect in the next few years as Defra try to mitigate climate change and rising water levels for the decades to come... also, over the next couple of decades, flood water will cause many problems such as fish migration from lakes on the flood plains for example, this has the potential of 'releasing the stock of 600+ sites that hold wels catfish that were given consents over the last 30 years or so, and it won't be just catfish either... there are some very strange 'exotics' that will inevitably find their way into our river systems.

Thanks,

Richard bom
