If anyone from the Hogsmill area would like to get involved in Riverfly monitoring, this is a great opportunity.

The ZSL is offering training in RMI, Riverfly Monitoring Initiative, this is a national scheme for monitoring the health of rivers developed by the Riverfly Partnership.

To qualify for RMI training you must be able to sample the river for at least 6 months.  Samples take about 30 minutes to do and are taken once per month.

You will learn:

  • The background of the Hogsmill river
  • How to kick-sample a river
  • How to identify river invertebrates (flies)
  • What to do with the RMI data

You will also meet other volunteers working up and down the Hogsmill river.  Everyone involved will have a day out at London Zoo.

The training will take place at Kingston University Knights Park Campus on Saturday 17th October 11am - 4pm

To book a place please contact Sivi Sivanesan email: s.sivanesan@kingston.ac.uk
