This little stream flows from Cookham to Maidenhead before entering the Cut which eventually flows into the Thames at Bray. Sadly it's drying up fast and roach, dace, perch, chub and pike are being left floundering in water inches deep. Thankfully the EA arrived this morning to start rescuing these fish.

Must say, the EA are usually good at this sort of thing. Crap at bailiffing, good at rescuing fish and dealing with pollution spills.

Update from the E$A:

To keep you updated on the major incident in Maidenhead yesterday.
Please circulate as you see fit:

An EA Fisheries led team yesterday conducted a major fish rescue on
the York Stream which runs through Maidenhead town centre. In response
to reports from a TAC member who noticed fish in distress on Tuesday
and called the incident hotline we were able to assemble 3
electro-fishing teams who started work at 06.30 on Wednesday morning
in an effort to remove as many fish as possible.

Much of the 1.5km length of affected stream has been reduced to a
series of isolated pools and has dried out in places. It is estimated
that during the operation circa 40,000 fish were removed and placed
into the main River Thames at Maidenhead. It is probable that many of
these fish entered the waterway from the main river, to which it is
connected in several places, to seek shelter from the winter floods.
At least 16 species of fish were recorded during the operation.

With the current hot weather we can expect to see a rise in incidents
on our lakes and rivers and I would ask anglers to continue to report
any problems via the incident hotline number on 0800807060.

In the meantime I'd like extend our thanks to all involved for
enabling the Environment Agency to respond so quickly to this
incident.

Regards
