Elderly chap, impossible to know how it happened at this stage. Just posted this because those few metres of bank were where I first fished, and learned to appreciate, the Thames

RIP old feller

PostSubject: Re: Thames Kingston - Body Found   Thames Kingston - Body Found EmptyThu May 15, 2014 9:24 pm

Two winters ago we had the police out looking for a body on our stretch. This went on for a good few weeks and every time we passed on our boats they would tell me to keep an eye out as he was due to pop up any time soon. One nite while getting the rods out in a very familiar area one of the leads didn't land with a thud more a very soft donk which was not what I was expecting. I went to wind it back in and it was snagged. After pulling as hard as I could it came free but It felt like the hook had ripped out of something soft. When I got the rig in there was some white wool on the hook. I knew in my mind what had just happened but dared think about it. The next week when I saw the police in the lock they said they had found the body about 60 yards downstream from where I was fishing. I asked them what he was wearing when they found him and they said he had a red jacket with a white woolen inside. Apparently I went rather pale.

Had quite a few dead body experiences out on the river. The worst was when we moved a boat and a canoer who had been missing a few weeks popped up face first. You know when you stay in the bath to long and go all wrinkly. X that by a few million minus an arm and all his teeth smashed out from bouncing down the river and through a weir. You can imagine it was not a pretty site.

:-D

Sod that!

Dad dragged a dead person in out of the waves at Lancing on a freezing winter night after cod, all alone on the beach.

Was so cold and wet thru he couldn't move, he just slumped there next to the dead body shivering. He couldn't feel his hands but knew he had to drag the corpse up the beach so the incoming tide didn't reclaim it. No mobiles back then so had to go and find a phone box, still soaking and frozen, then wait for the police.

The body was a teenage girl and although we were young, I was aware that messed him up for a while. I think it was dragging the body that did it.

Andy that must have been horrible you have my utmost sympathy ,did some work at the house of an ex navy Police diver who said that often if the bodys have been in there a while they start to separate ie limbs come off and that it was often difficult to get the body into a body bag before surfacing due to this.....some kinda mindsety to be able to do that job on a daily basis respect.
However people end up in her she sadly seldom takes prisoners
