In this week's AT there's report of a sturgeon off the Welsh coast and a striper bass from Dover. That's on top of a sword fish from the Tyne estuary a couple of weeks back.

Blimey. They used to be in the Thames aswell till the industrial revolution's pollution killed them off. Last one was caught from Chertsey 1827 I think it was. I've got a clipping of the catch report somewhere - it towed the bloke who caught it and his boat and left him screaming for help.

It would break my heart catching a Sturgeon from the Thames(or anywhere for that matter)
and have to hand it over to Lizzie. One would not be amused.

Yep - first sturgeon of the year caught from the Thames was sent to the King/Queen and the second one the mayor had.

Just been googling...looks like the date I posted above was the last sturgeon on the Lower but looks like they were still being caught on the tidal in the 1860s.

Would be amazing if they came back to the Thames one day.
