I've just received a provisional date from the leaders of
13th Twickenham Scout Group for a River Crane litter-pick and
clean up event

(evening) Friday 19th April 2013

TAC will be helping out with the necessary equipment, litter pickers, etc.
anyone who is able to make it along will be more than welcome.

More details to follow when I have them.

Spoke to the leaders on Friday, we will be meeting at the Meadway bridge, plenty of litter all the way along that section up towards Hospital Bridge roundabout. Parking there is easy and local for the scouts involved.

(We should think about a further clean-up event upstream near where the fish were stocked as well.)

This Friday we'll be joining 13th Twickenham Scouts to partake of a pleasant evening's rubbish collection along the River Crane, Meadway, area. Anyone at a loose end that evening do please feel free to join us. If you can bring waders or a wheelbarrow, even better.

About 12 scouts, 6 parents and a couple of TAC members collected about 5 bags of rubbish from the River Crane this evening, the spoils included:
* A shopping trolley (which we left by the side of the footpath pending our return trip, by which time some local youth had returned it to the river!)
* A couple of traffic cones
* A fridge compressor
* Some wire fence
* A broken bicycle frame
* About 5 bags of rubbish
The kids all had great fun, especially since Dave brought along all the river-fly kick sampling kit and they were allowed to get in the river and do it for themselves. One lad started the evening complaining how boring he found the idea of litter picking, by the end he was boasting that he was the best litter picker and reckoned he'd collected more than anyone else!

A few of the final photos, more to follow:
