PostSubject: Re: Penton Hook weir permit   Penton Hook weir permit - Page 2 EmptyFri Jun 22, 2012 11:38 pm

I suspected the modern health and safety epidemic spread to the L&W permit some time ago Sad

I was talking to an old timer recently and in years gone by one bought a ticket and fished wherever and common sense prevailed Smile

No surprise about the bailiff numbers. I have never been asked to produce a license on the Thames. The only time I have every was asked for a rod license was on St. Patricks Stream back when I had the Leisure Sport ticket. I think that was the late 80s!

Anyhow, one last idea. What about them opening the weirs up to day tickets as well as season permits? I am sure they could give people who have never bought a permit a taste of what is on offer and generate more $$$ on both accounts.

Stephen having it run more club style is certainly a consideration and something that could work at PH, have given it thought recently. It is the only spot bar Sunbury where it could work on the lower river.

They sell around 450 tickets a year but that covers the whole of the river, so not many in real terms.

To bailiff an EA water presume would need EA powers, then if you did would be having the individuals committed to going to the water each day and be willing to kick people off. To be honest feels like the proverbial can of worms but if we can come up with concrete suggestions, the EA do and are listening to the TAC, so we are best placed to make the changes.

Keep the ideas coming. Smile

Just a idea or suggestion,Parking in general cost money, would anyone be prepared to pay a fee to the EA to
get near weir parking on top of their Lock and permit dosh.It would be a win ,win situation. The EA could use
the money for secure parking with a combination padlock on gate for permit holders .

PS I know of a good security company to provide padlocks with chain.

Know where you're coming from John but our angle is that we are already paying customers, with our licence and the lock and weir permit on top. We photoed all the space on the locks they have sitting doing nothing, often used as parking by other lock users but denied to anglers. Each lock on the Lower has room for at least 2 cars....if not more at some locks.

Some good news for all you L&W permit holders.

Steve Holmes did an extensive survey of all the sites a while back and after a number of negotiations they have agreed two parking spaces at Sunbury and 1 at Molesey. Full details will follow but is a major coup getting these and thanks to Steve for doing all the ground work. Getting any parking considering the boaters get none, is huge.

In addition there is a new site up at Cookham where I was today, The platforms are just going in and it a cracking site, parking is an issue as will be a bit of a walk but have got 2 'Blue Badge' spaces next to the new and top class disabled swim. This has been Stu Keable of the EA fisheries baby and done it from scratch to open up the site, big pat on the back.

For £28.50 a year, its a bargain Smile

A few pics from Cookham today (Yes its middle Thames but there you go :o )
