Sewage spill at Thanet Empty
PostSubject: Sewage spill at Thanet   Sewage spill at Thanet EmptyWed Jun 06, 2012 1:53 pm

Just saw this on twitter:
Quote :
EA staff are currently investigating the sewage spill at ‪#Thanet‬. We are working with @ThanetCouncil & Southern Water to reduce the impact

Ah, it happened yesterday. I hope the various departments were on-scene before today.

Basically the same old story:
Quote :
Spokesman Jon Crooke said the pumping station discharged water which could otherwise have flooded homes.

It seems the EA have been on the scene since Sunday...

So basically the timeline of events seems to have been:

  1. 15th May 2012 BBC reported more Blue Flag awards at Thanet beaches than any other area in England.
  2. Following heavy rain last Wednesday (30th May) Foreness Point Sewage Pumping Station became blocked and the pumps failed, discharging to the sea.
  3. Southern water did not fix it.
  4. After more heavy rain on Sunday 3rd June yet more sewage discharged to the sea.
  5. Tuesday 5th June BBC reports Thanet beaches closed to swimmers
I hope they throw the book at Southern water.
