"On the way in to work noticed that the River was all foamy to the point of being around 20ft high around the bridges and overflowing on the banks, unbeliveable sight. "

Eye witness account from one of the Cemex lads this morning.

Apparently EA are down there now. Beddington Lane - Wimbledon stadium the thread says.

It was only 2 weeks ago it was profiled on the TV as being a success story and healthy river again.

You mean the River Wandle steve, walking up it now.
Have had calls and texts all morning, the river is covered in foam 10ft high in places, Its because of a fire/accident in the area and this was used to control an oil spill apparently? No signs of fish in distress and fish have been seen in the affected area swimming fine.

What the *%$**%?#?&!!! Mad
Keep those photo's coming... they are absolutely priceless in campaigning terms...
Neil I have taken the liberty of linking to your photo in a comment on the EA's flickr photostream, hope you don't mind.

If anyone can perhaps get a shot from the same angle as either of the EA's existing photo's taken in Morden Hall Park today, complete with foam, that would be just... well "great" isn't the right word, but you know what I mean.

Just back from a long walk up river of mordon hall park to beddington lane/the goat, seems to be breaking down and dispersing.
The bulk of what we see was near beddington lane and see some in trees some 15/20ft above the river!! Fish all seem fine and swimming around..
There's non left lower down (ravensbury/poulters).
Thank god it wasn't worse or any thing like the last one.

Andy.

Have just got back from walking the river again with Andy. The only area affected with the foam as far as we could see was where is shown in the pic i put up earlier. Its still the same there although weve now spotted plenty of fish movement directly downstream of the foam and all seems fine. Sorry cant report any more really but fingers crossed as far as we can make out it all is fine in terms of fish and wildlife.

PostSubject: wandle nearly polluted   Fri Sep 23, 2011 9:24 pm

the fire service should be commended for contacvting the E.A. in the summer 20 miles of the roding could have been polluted by a slurry accident if the E.A were not informed by the fire service and stopped its entry into the river.
