PostSubject: New EA Consultation - Charges for fisheries authorisations - 2012   Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:05 pm

Have a read and let us know your thoughts, we will be responding as the TAC but welcome input of any kind.

Thanks

'We introduced a new scheme in 2011 to regulate net and trap fishing for elver and adult eel, smelt, lamprey, crayfish and Chinese mitten crab. Under this new scheme, fishing for these species is authorised, rather than licensed.

We welcome your views on how much we propose to charge for authorisations. And we want to know how these charges will affect you and your fishing.'

With the endangered state of some of the fish mentioned above, especially Eels, Elvers and Lamprey, I think there is a case for allowing no Authorisation at all - as for Mittens and Crays (only the foreign species of Crays, of course) , anyone who has a valid coarse fishing licence should be able to take as many as they like, from anywhere, subject to permission from the fishery owner.

It's ridiculous that at the moment the law appears to say you cannot take crayfish away from a fishery, but also that any crayfish you catch accidentally, must not be returned to the water, alive or dead - what are we supposed to do, wave a magic wand and make 'em disappear.

It's also ridiculous that, even when licenced, you can only take Crayfish from very specific locations.
