PostSubject: e-petitions   Sun Aug 07, 2011 7:19 pm

I've just been looking over the new government e-petition site here:

https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/

I was surprised to find that there were no petitions concerning the the legalised pollution of the Thames and other waterways - none at all..?

To see if this type of petition is being 'suppressed' by HMG - I though I'd start one of my own - it's entitled "Stop all untreated sewage discharges into our waterways"

and reads:

"The recent major sewage pollution incident(s) involving the River Thames and other UK rivers should be stopped as soon as is reasonably possible.

It seems that the water companies involved have so called 'permissions' to discharge untreated and partially treated sewage whenever they see fit - this practice must be stopped."

It'll probably take a few days before it's viewable, but it'll be interesting to see if it makes it on to the site.

I'm sure that I've not done a great job of wording it so if anyone else wants to submit something a bit more professional please be my guest.

The site is up and running, however, you need 100,000 signatures before they look at it. Sadly, I doubt we could raise that much interest.

Hi Neil - long time no talkee.........

You're not quite right about the e-petitions - you need 100,000 signatures to have a chance of a question being raised in parliament, but I'm sure that all the ministries will have someone keeping their eyes on the petitions, if only to be forewarned of the possibility that the shat is about to hit the fin.

You are correct in saying that it's unlikely that we'll hit that number but if you aint' init, yer can't win it.......

Cheers
Barry

spot on m8, you gotta try, getting proactive is success in itself, whether you achieve all your goals, or come in with silver or bronze, it dont matter, its all a success
if anyone doubts what can be achieved by determined anglers, then they cant have heard of you lot, the TAC

Good work Barry, and I'm sure we can "activate" many signatures in this regard, please place a link in here when the petition is available and then all we can do "collectively" is sign, and then spread the word virally, via the internet.

Richard

19 signatures now - a bit disappointing considering I sent emails to about 100 people in my address book, plus emails to Anglers Net, Essex Fishing and Fishing Magic - also my local club.

Still, it's early day's yet...........

I signed Barry but I guess most realise it won't get to the required 100,000 so end up not bothering.

Smile Meant nothing by it mate.

Even if every single TAC, AN, FM, BFW and Cemex member signed....we still wouldn't be even a 10th of the way there. Add in every Angling Trust member and we still wouldn't have the required 100,000 signatures.

We signed and we're bothered but most anglers aren't. They'll work out the 100,000 won't be reached, so won't make the effort.

I've just emailed the Anglers Mail, Angling Times and a few other publications, in the hope of getting some more support for this petition. (message below)

If someone could contact the the Boating, Canoeing and Ecological contacts that TAC has formed, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Barry

I ain't gonna give this one up easily.....................

"Being a member of the TAC and very concerned about the recent serious pollutions on the Thames, I have recently started a petition on the dot.gov petitions website.

The petition can be found here: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/6611

Any publicity that you can give to get this destruction of the Thames eco-system (and the other rivers affected by the legal discharge of untreated sewage) would be most welcome"

PS - Thanks to all members who've already signed, and many more thanks to those who are about to sign..........................
