PostSubject: RAPID RESPONSE LIST   RAPID RESPONSE LIST EmptyTue Jun 07, 2011 7:28 am

following yesterdays pollution on the thames, it was brought home how a few committed individuals, with the minimum of kit, might be able to make a difference

so we're getting a list together of a few, hopefully many members, who would be willing to stop what they're doing, and hightail it to the problem
obviously you cant be around all the time, but any and all help is appreciated
if you're interested, put your name on here, and admin will be in touch to get your mobile number

and if you've any kit that could be useful, post it on the equipment for pollution thread

No our family is quite dysfunctional in the mornings and any hope of popping out to have a look before the kids are off to school would be tantamount to suicide!
Got to go in to work now though, I will walk over the bridge to get the train from Richmond instead of my usual and take some photos if I see anything.

PostSubject: Health & Safety   RAPID RESPONSE LIST EmptyFri Jun 10, 2011 11:50 am

We need to be REALLY CAREFUL handling fish in this raw sewage, there are some nasty bacteria and viruses in there, eg. Hepatitis A.

Here is a quick common-sense health-and-safety check list:

  1. Check that all your standard vaccinations are up-to-date, ie tetanus, polio etc.
They are still free on the NHS.
  2. Maybe tell your GP what you're up to and ask whether a HepA vaccination is available.
  3. Wear long-sleeved rubber gloves.
  4. No scratching your nose, rubbing your eyes or licking your fingers.
Be a bit careful if you have a smoke.
  5. No exposed cuts, scratches or open wounds.
  6. A thorough scrub-down in the shower afterwards before eating.

(edit)Here are the government HSE publications:

It's raining again. Amber alert everybody. I feel guilty every time I go to the toilet now...

james nice one, have got your tel no
paul, mucho appreciated, pm me your tel no

no one is expected to drop everything and come running, but because the last one resulted in the bubbler boat being out for 3 days, we need as many to man the kit as possible, over a potential 72 hr period
